چکیده

the compact gravity inversion including the minimization of moment of inertia has been applied to determine the geometry of anomalous bodies which cause much more depth esolution. the new algorithm is based on lewi's (1996) procedure including the minimum moment of inertia. the method is used with good results to several 3-dimensional synthetic models and real examples. the advantage of using this combination method is presented by comparing it with the other methods

3d gravity inversion using a selection of constraints including minimum distance, smoothness and compactness

in gravity interpretation, inversion algorithms have been used widely over the years, but as the potential follows the gauss theorem, there are many equivalent source distributions that can produce the same known field. so to obtain a unique solution, suitable constraints should be introduced to the algorithm. during the last decades many authors have used several approaches to introduce a prio...

Gravity field, shape, and moment of inertia of Titan.

Precise radio tracking of the spacecraft Cassini has provided a determination of Titan's mass and gravity harmonics to degree 3. The quadrupole field is consistent with a hydrostatically relaxed body shaped by tidal and rotational effects. The inferred moment of inertia factor is about 0.34, implying incomplete differentiation, either in the sense of imperfect separation of rock from ice or a c...

Mercury’s moment of inertia from spin and gravity data

Earth-based radar observations of the spin state of Mercury at 35 epochs between 2002 and 2012 reveal that its spin axis is tilted by (2.04 ± 0.08) arcminutes with respect to the orbit normal. The direction of the tilt suggests that Mercury is in or near a Cassini state. Observed rotation rate variations clearly exhibit an 88-day libration pattern which is due to solar gravitational torques act...

Non-linear stochastic inversion of 2D gravity data using evolution strategy (ES)

In the current work, a 2D non-linear inverse problem of gravity data is solved using the evolution strategies (ES) to find the thickness of a sedimentary layer in a deep-water situation where a thick sedimentary layer usually exists. Such problems are widely encountered in the early stages of petroleum explorations where potential field data are used to find an initial estimate of the basin geo...

Modified gravity and the origin of inertia

Modified gravity theory is known to violate Birkhoff’s theorem. We explore a key consequence of this violation, the effect of distant matter in the universe on the motion of test particles. We find that when a particle is accelerated, a force is experienced that is proportional to the particle’s mass and acceleration and acts in the direction opposite to that of the acceleration. We identify th...
